This is the Marko recycled foam blank glassed with Super sap bio resin from Entropy resin. The board came out super light and felt great. It was super buoyant and was incredibly fast. I brought it down , waxed it up, and let people demo it. People really liked the board and what it was made of, and all who rode it were stoked. Unfortunately, the board did not come home with me. Fortunately, Taylor Steele has it now. Without much alaia experience, he paddled out and got some really nice long rides and wanted a board.Tuesday, October 5, 2010
Cardiff Classic and Green Fair
We spent last weekend at the Cardiff Classic and Green Fair. The waves were good the whole time, the event was attended by a lot of people, and the info booths were inspiring. Our booth was practically on the rocks in front of the surf and across from the stage where really good music was live from morning to evening. The event is put together by Cardiff 101 and its purpose is to inform the public to be conscious about the environment and have fun. We must thank Betty Steele for inviting us to be a part of the event and her hard work putting together the event along with the rest of Cardiff 101. I believe these events are important, and should happen often. If people are around the message all the time it sinks in. For those who remember, nobody wore seat belts in the 70's. The seat belt campaign was heavy for a while. Now almost everyone wheres a seat belt. One feels naked with out one in a car.

"Greener Surfboards"
This is a 9'6'' made out of I Foam from Marko Foam for Josh Rothman, Rasta. I need to learn more about the foam. I know it is 100% recyclable, but it was very hard to shape, like rubber. I guess people have them done on the computer. We ordered the blank with no stringer. Josh and I made a custom stringer out of a piece of balsa I had, and glued it in. I learned to do this working at Walker Foam off and on for many years. Once shaped, we wanted to try out some bio resins from Entropy, specifically the Super Sap natural oil based epoxy resin. The resin has a yellow tinge to it. Some may have an issue with that so you can put some color in it. We put a little white on this board.

We feel we made a pretty green board with some of the latest materials. The board was just finished and will keep you updated.
I have really enjoyed making alaias and hollow boards out of wood. The wood I use is grown like a crop and has many beneficial attributes, like creating oxygen and returning nutrition to the soil. Standard foam boards are not great for the environment, but that is what most people ride, so if we need to make foam boards, let's do it better. I will be working on this and will keep you updated on the successes and failures.

New boards for Icons of Surf
These are some boards I made for Icons of surf in San Clemente using the name of Chocolate Fish. We have come up with different functional designs, boards, colors and graphics. This is my Quadradamus Model with Chocolate fish colors. 6'4''

Ken, the owner of Icons, wanted to make some shorter single fins. The single fins I have ridden have usually been longer 6'6'' and up. So for inspiration I thought to my favorite movie clips, The Micheal Peterson footage in Hal Jepson's Super Session. In the sequence he is ripping cutbacks hitting the lip and getting deep tubes on waves just overhead. The session was so innovative for the time and I still have not seen anybody ride a single fin that well. I think the board he is riding looks something like this; Full outline, flat rocker, down rails. I also put some neat concaves in the bottom to keep the speed up.

Round pin Twin
My first twin fin was by Bob Stassi. It was a round pin. It was a real good board. I haven't seen many over the years. I made a stock one and put it in Central Coast Surfboards, CCS, Awhile ago. Recently James called me and told me he rode and loved his friends board that I made. It was the board out of CCS. He ordered a custom and here it is. 6'2''.
